Step 2: Painting
Aura used a hair painting or balayage technique to get the most natural-looking highlight. First she teased the hair at the roots so there are no straight lines of demarcation and the color is more diffused. She also used a veining technique that makes the highlights thinner at the roots and thicker near the ends for a feathered effect. "You don't want it to be solid," Aura said. "The dark in between is going to act as a contrasting tone and give the color on the ends more pop."
